SYNOPSIS:

Derived from the traditional Ethiopian language Amharic, "Yene Fikir" translates to "My Love" in English. The film is an exploration of immigrant culture and sense memory, featuring Sara, an Ethiopian Israeli who immigrated to New York City from Jerusalem 18 years ago.

The film was screened for an audience at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art to a live score, written and performed by Natalie Prass using only vocals and a loop station.

Jethro Waters (DIRECTOR/PRODUCER) Writer, Director, Producer and Cinematographer - Jethro Water’s directorial debut for a feature documentary film, F11 AND BE THERE, has screened in Full Frame Documentary Film Festival, Austin Film Festival, and many other festivals internationally. F11 AND BE THERE is distributed by First Run Features in North America and is the premiere episode for the PBS documentary series Reel South. F11AND BE THERE is scheduled for a streaming release on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Apple TV, and Kanopy in June 2020.

His short film, REMAINS, was a featured part of the Civil Rights museum photography exhibition “I Am a Man” curated by William R. Ferris, exhibiting in The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington D.C., as well as art museums in Montepellier, France, and Johannesburg, South Africa through 2018 and 2019.

Jethro has made music documentaries and music videos with Angel Olsen, Natalie Prass, Eric Slick, Valient Thorr, Matthew E. White, River Whyless, and a host of other musicians and artists. Jethro’s work as a filmmaker has often been published in The New York Times, The Guardian, Rolling Stone, Pitchfork, NPR, Billboard, among many other publications and media outlets. He has made a wide range of films with teams from various professions - publishing, art, academia, cinema, and music.

Jethro is a featured filmmaker at the Venice Architecture Bienalle 2020, in Venice Italy, from August 2020 through February 2021.
